School for the Visually Impaired and Physically Challenged

In the year 2006, Manav Kalyan Trust visualized lack of rehabilitation care for people with disability in the most educationally and economically rearward tribal area of Dang District in the State of Gujarat. Manav Kalyan Trust decided to expand activities and started Free Residential School for Children with Visual Impairment (Blind) near village Shivarimal, Dist – Dang. At present 167 children with Visual Impairment are being catered for free institutional care and education in 6 acre land. Foundation Stone Ceremony for the proposed school was laid by Hon. Governor of Gujarat Dr. (Smt.) Kamla Beniwal on 8th April 2010. Construction of school for Visually Impaired with complete accessibility is completed.

In the year 2007 our late Founder took a challenging decision of setting up a school for the blind, visual impaired and physically handicapped special children in the tribal village of Shivarimal, Dang district of Gujarat. It has turned out to be a boon to the tribal society where the need for such a facility was long felt. It offers well blended educational paradigm of special and mainstream education with emphasis on Braille and mobility training to resident student.

A well conceived brand-new campus for this residential school keeping in view barriers-free accessibility infrastructure available for the persons with disability. The uniqueness of campus is, for all round development activities of student facilities like Sports ground and recreational park has been arranged.

Manav Kalyan Trust makes an active effort to manage a school for the blind and visually impaired on the outskirts of Dang District, a tribal section of South Gujarat region. This residential school gives blind children a loving home, square meals, and a nurturing learning environment focused on encouraging personal strength and building a positive attitude. This facility also extends help to elderly blind people in surrounding areas. There are nearly 167 blind students ranging from ages 5 to 18 in this school. For the past seven years, Manav Kalyan Trust has supported this school with financial help of well wishers and donors.

Through the kind contributions of Manav Kalyan Trust, the school now has a latest computer and a modern technology Braille printer. The school now possesses the capacity to emboss its own educational material in Braille. Today, the Blind School is running successfully with a newly built hostel with all the required facilities and an open play ground which is designed to ensure the safety of its students. School for the Blind and Visually Impaired offers state wide quality educational programs and resources to students who are blind or visually impaired under auspicious leadership of visually impaired Principal, enabling them to become productive, self-sufficient citizens through the various opportunities of education and life skill training
